Capstone Filaments is a Canadian-based filament manufacturer specializing in standard and engineering materials produced locally. Their challenge was entering a saturated market with a commodity product, and they needed to establish themselves quickly as an authoritative and trusted brand while still standing out from the crowd.

With a target audience of engineers and 3D printing professionals in mind, our goal was to create a professional and classy look that would make Capstone Filaments instantly recognizable. The logo's icon cleverly combines the architectural imagery of a capstone with the letter C and a filament spool, visually representing the brand. We selected the Gravesend Sans typeface for its versatility, allowing us to emphasize "Capstone" while providing contrast in the wordmark. The sharp angles in the A align with the sharp caps of the icon, creating a cohesive look and feel. To convey professionalism and durability, we paired a powerful red with a dark denim blue, reinforcing the brand's messaging as a reliable workhorse.

The impactful red is prominently featured on the product packaging, ensuring that Capstone Filaments stands out on the shelf and commands attention. But a brand identity goes beyond visual elements. It extends to product photography and advertising, which is why we incorporated rough textures and geometric shapes. For standard materials, we utilized natural textures with rough edges like rocks, while the engineering line showcases precise lines, darker colors, and metallic textures. This rugged appearance caters to the predominantly masculine target audience and evokes a powerful, structural feel that aligns with the material's benefits.
